What does it mean to adopt a bonobo?
Your symbolic adoption provides vital support for the care of a rescued bonobo at Lola ya Bonobo Sanctuary. Your gift helps provide food, medical care, enrichment, and the nurturing care they need to heal, grow, and thrive.
Can I choose which bonobo I adopt?
Yes! You can choose from the bonobos featured in our adoption program and follow their individual journeys. If you would like to adopt a bonobo that isn't featured, please email us at info@friendsofbonobos.org.
How is my adoption gift used?
Your gift supports the care of the bonobo you choose as well as the broader work needed to rescue and protect bonobos. This includes food, veterinary care, enrichment, staff, facilities, and other essential needs at Lola ya Bonobo.
How long does my symbolic adoption last?
If you choose a one-off donation, your symbolic adoption will last for one year. If you choose a recurring donation, your support continues each month until you choose to cancel.
Will my adopted bonobo eventually return to the wild?
For some bonobos, the goal is eventually to join a reintroduction program and return to protected habitat in the wild. Others may remain at the sanctuary depending on their health, development, and individual circumstances. Wherever their journey leads, your support helps give them the care and protection they need.
Is my donation secure?
Yes. Your security and privacy is our highest priority. We use industry-standard SSL technology to keep your information safe and secure.
Do I get a receipt?
Yes, we’ll send a receipt to the email address you provide when donating. The receipt will include your donation details, such as the date, amount, and any beneficiary information.
Can I adopt a bonobo as a gift for someone else?
Absolutely. An adoption makes a meaningful gift for an animal lover, and you can share the symbolic adoption with someone special. Please make note when you make the donation and we can ensure the certificate is made out in their name.
